OOIDA’s Petition Gains Traction…
…Grabbing the Attention of TIA, FMCSA and Others
The petition’s goal; more transparency from freight brokerages AKA getting brokers to provide information to motor carriers automatically and electronically.
“According to OOIDA’s comments, original broker regulations established 85 years ago had the objective, ‘to protect the public’s interest in an ‘adequate, economical, and efficient’ motor carrier transportation system free from the ‘unjust discriminations’ and ‘destructive competitive practices’ of unscrupulous middlemen.’ The Interstate Commerce Commission confirmed that 45 years later with broker transparency revisions. Since then, nothing has changed to suggest broker transparency is no longer needed.” Source: Land Line Media
There is still some debate on the effects the new transparency rules could have on broker’s checkbooks, with some professionals suggesting a concern for high incurring costs, and others pointing out the opportunities of ROI that certain types of new software can give freight brokers and 3PLs.
