Why Trailer Tracking?
How Brokers and Truckers Can Help with Storm Recovery
Storms and other disasters will test supply chains, but they also show how generous and resourceful 3PLs, carriers, and drivers can be. As Hurricane Dorian gets ready to make landfall, here are three specialized organizations that assist relief and recovery groups locate and move goods to communities in need:
American Logistics Aid Network: ALAN is an all-volunteer non-profit organization with a web portal where freight brokers, warehouses, and truck fleets can post available resources and aid organizations can post their needs. Drivewyze adds Safety Notifications
Safer Mountain Driving & More
Drivewyze has recently added road grades and the availability of ramps and brake-check locations at seven Colorado mountain passes to its Drivewyze Safety Notifications package. Drivewyze will add passes in 22 more states to the alert system by the end of the summer.
Both the Drivewyze Safety Notifications service and its PreClear weigh station bypass application are available on the Transflo Mobile+ platform.
“The goal is to not have to use the ramps at all, by having drivers better prepared,” said Brian Mofford, VP of Government Experience at Drivewyze. “Our alerts will keep safety front and center and prompt drivers to check their brakes, allowing them to cool down, and remind them to downshift to a lower gear.”

Transflo Introduces Trailer Tracking
With Telematics & Location Reporting
Transflo is excited to offer the TT600-series telematics device manufactured by Flex. It’s a compact, rugged device that’s simple to install, and features a solar cell with battery back-up that lasts up to four months with no solar charge. The unit provides complete transparency into the utilization, dwell time, and movements of critical assets.
“Adding asset tracking to the industry’s most powerful cloud-based business management and telematics platform lets Transflo Mobile+ users know precisely when and how their equipment is performing at any time, even when it’s not connected to a tractor or power source,” said VP of Product and Innovation, Doug Schrier. “Simply install it, turn it on, and the device begins working automatically.”
“Hotshot” hits the Jackpot
By Matthew Meeks
Even with new technology the trucking industry isn’t without its challenges, and Davey acknowledges that, “many drivers these days want to run their own business.” This is a real issue effecting driver retention within the industry. Davey wants to maintain a business plan that allows her to offer competitive wages to her drivers and said, “We don’t take out as much as the average larger carrier.”
Davey has plans to grow and diversify her fleet too. “We’re looking at adding sprinter vans so we can also haul smaller loads without paying larger overhead,” Davey explained. She also has her sights set on adding a big rig to her fleet which currently only consists of 40-foot hotshot trucks (AKA dually trucks).
